On Lizzo and the Important Importance of a Good Dance Party

January 25, 2019 by Erin Moline

The power of a good dance party was revealed to me in early high school. I can still remember the Fall dance where “Bust a Move” released the magical elixir of life-with-boogie into my body. Oh, dancing.

I have loved dancing ever since, engaging in many the dance party — solo, wedding, and club — since. But it was only recently that I began to ask the people I work in therapy with the simple question, “Do you dance?”

If you are coming into my office seeking happiness, joy, and a life more realized, how will that be achieved without dancing and music? I do not know a way. So this has become standard for me lately, asking about dancing, listening to music, enjoying art. In short, what do you do that allows you to connect to the stream of life’s great brilliance? For to move towards what you love is truly the ultimate cure for FOMO, IMHO.

Just when you think you know something about life, someone like Lizzo comes along to teach you otherwise. The revolution she is bringing is real, important, and man, fun. If you haven’t discovered her yet, I don’t suggest listening until you have plenty of space, to DANCE.
