Aquarius New Moon
I walked down to the river this morning. It has been raining a lot here, a lot of water, but today there was a bit of clearing and movement, some sun and clouds.
I walked down to the river and stood by it, watching the light in the sky, the movement of the clouds, the sun’s reflection on the water moving in and out of visibility. I thought about Aquarius, the Water Bearer, whose sign we have just entered this week and whose moon will rise in darkness above us tonight.
I watched the water and thought about the Earth as Water-Bearer, the sacredness of our planet, this being moving through space, this being that we are a part of, that carries water and gives it space to bring life forward out of its potential.
Aquarius reminds us that Water is Life, and of the importance of once again entering into the stream. I think of the weeks after the Holidays as a kind of hang time, and with Capricorn we are getting things in order, thinking about must be done and accomplished in the coming year.
Now, here is the shift. We move from planting earthly seeds to preparing the container that will allow the flowing that will nourish them. To flow is to expand and to become. Aquarius calls us into finding the container that suits our flow, that supports our growth and being. Our growth and being is its own force, life itself. The control we have is how to contain it, how to find inspiration to nourish and take care of ourselves so that the soul energy that is within us can flourish and emerge.
The Star is the Tarot card associated with Aquarius season. It is my favorite, I have to admit. The number 17 is my number, and I have always loved the image and energy of a woman gently kneeling, moving water between source and sand.
We have planted seeds this past month for the new year. Aquarius invites us to trust ourselves as Water Bearers of our own life, to become containers and stewards of the beautiful soul energy we have been given, and to do so with love.
